Schnick Schack Schnuck

Irgendwo zwischen Diplom-muss-fertig-werden und "Ich hab gar keine Zeit" habe ich kürzlich noch das Design für ein iPhone-Spiel "Schnick Schnack Schnuck" gemacht (für White Cube), das ihr sicher alle noch aus Kindertagen kennt. Es ist seit ein paar Tagen hier verfügbar. Ich konnte es leider selbst noch nicht testen, da ich nicht im Besitz eines solchen Telefones bin, bin aber gespannt auf jegliches Feedback!

Recently I made the design for an i Phone game called "Schnick Schnack Schnuck" (for White Cube) . It is available here. I wasn't able to test it, I don't have one of these phones but I'd like to hear your feedback!

In the morning

Hier mal wieder zwei Illustrationen aus dem Lehrbuch für die Kinder-Englischschule. Diesmal geht es darum, was man am Morgen so macht und dann dann gibts noch ein kleines Issue im Kinderzimmer...

Here are another two illustrations for the kid's English school. It's about what you don in the morning and there is a little quarrel in the cildren's room.

Index Illustration

Eine meiner Illustrationen wurde in dem kürzlich erschienen Index Illustration von Claudia Herling veröffentlicht und ich bin überraschenderweise ziemlich angetan von dem Buch. Ich habe bisher einen großen Bogen um die Index-Buchreihe gemacht (gibt es auch über Logos, Farbe, Schrift...), da das Cover mich bisher nicht so sonderlich überzeugen konnte, dass da jemand der Ahnung von Design hat am Werk war.
Weit gefehlt! Das Buch ist absolut spannend, handlich, durch Interviews mit Illustratoren angereichert und macht einfach Spaß.
Übrigens ist der fantastische Herr Gellner ebenfalls mit von der Partie!

One of my illustrations war published in Index Illustration. And I'm really surprise how good this book is. I've been very sceptical with the Index-series, well... I don't like the cover design. But it's really a great book!
Also, the fabulous Mr. Gellner is published in there as well.

Big Draw Sketchbook

Ihr erinnert euch sicher noch ans Big Draw Festival. Diese Woche habe ich das Skizzenbuch dazu gehalten, mit Skizzen aller Teilnehmer und leeren Seiten zum Selber füllen zwischendurch. Ist wirklich geworden.

You might remember the Big Draw Festival. I got my copy of the sketchbook. It shows drawings of all the artists and empty pages so you can draw yourself. Very nice!

Goldener Spatz 2010 Plakat

Im August gab es den alljährlichen Aufruf für das Palakt zum Kindermedienfestival "Goldener Spatz". Ihr erinnert euch vielleicht, ich hatte bereits letztes Jahr daran teilgenommen. Ich habe auch dieses Jahr wieder mit gemacht, denn eigentlich ist es ein schöner Wettbewerb. Hier ist mein Beitrag, offizielles Gewinnerplakat scheint das hier zu sein, zumindest steht es so auf der Website. Nun ja, Regenbogenfarben sind ja irgendwie immer ganz schick ;-)

Minisprech Ausstellung - jetzt in Berlin

Die Minisprech-Tour macht Halt in Berlin. Gestern abend wurde in der unglaublich entzückenden Musenstube in Neukölln die Minisprech-Ausstellung eröffnet, die noch bis zum 2.11. dort gastiert. Wer also gestern nicht konnte, hat noch etwas Zeit vorbei zu schauen. Und es lohnt sich, denn wie ich gestern fest gestellt habe, wirken die meisten der Arbeiten "in echt" im Längen besser! (Vielen Dank für due Fotos an die reizende Fotografin Julia G.)

Yesterday the Minisprech-exhbition openend in the lovely Musenstube in Neukölln and will stay thill 11/2. The pictures are so much better in "real" so ih you have the chance: go there!

»Curry Up« - Game for Berlin's new Currywurst Museum

Vor ein paar Wochen wurde ich von IXDS gefragt, ob ich Lust hätte an einem Projekt für das bald eröffnende Berliner Currywurstmuseum mitzuarbeiten. Da das wahrscheinlich die lustigste Projektanfrage war, die ich jemals bekommen habe, habe ich natürlich zugesagt. Das Projekt ist das Spiel "Curry Up", das man im Museum spielen kann. Man muss einfach so schnell wie möglich drei Currywurst-Bestellungen abarbeiten. Das Spiel ist absolut Vegetarier-tauglich, denn natürlich sind es keine echten Würste, das Spiel wird auf einem Touchscreen gespielt.
Ich habe die Illustrationen dafür gemacht. Mehr vom Spiel gibts auf den folgenden Fotos zu sehen. Danke an Jonathan, Christian, Brendan, André, Reto and Julia!

A couple of weeks ago I was asked by IXDS if I want to work with them on a project for the Currywurst museum in Berlin. That was probably the funniest request I ever got so I said yes! We were working on a game called „Curry Up“ that you can play in the museum. You just have to finish three wursts as fast as possible. It’s of course not real wursts, it’s on screen and that’s where I came in: I did the illustrations for the game. Here are some pictures of the game. Ein Hartz für Berlin - Contest UPDATE

***UPDATE*** Seit heute ist es soweit soweit: Das Plakat mit Original-Autogramm von Peter FOX wird auf ebay versteigert. Alle mitbieten!!!

Gestern abend fand das "Ein Hartz für Berlin"-Charity-Konzert in der Zitadelle Spandau statt, zu dem ich eingeladen war und zwar weil.... *Trommelwirbel*... ich den von Talentarena ausgeschriebenen Plakat-Contest gewonnen habe. Ich habe mir für mein Plakat den großartigen "Peter Fox" heraus gesucht, den ich seit gestern erst recht fantastisch finde.
Die Plakate sind - wie der ganze Event - für einen guten Zweck: die von allen Künstlern unterzeichneten Plakate (10 Stück von allen Contestgewinnern) werden ab Mitte der Woche auf Ebay versteigert. Also mit bieten!

I did win a little poster contest for the charity-project "Ein Hartz für Berlin". Posters will be sold on ebay very soon.

United Pulse

I made a little illustration for a friends project called "United Pulse" which was exhibited at the DesignMayYoungsters (which is actually in June, I have no idea why...) festival in Berlin last weekend. The project is a device that creates remote intimacy by using two rings. Each ring measures the wearer's heartbeat and sends it to the partner's ring. On the picture you see the prototype of it. UPDATE: Alright, so it seems they just use the initials of former DesignMaiYoungsters and now it's called Daily, Monthly, Yearly - DMY. An this was the DMY-Extented exhibiton. Goofy...

Turns out: the baby's mom isn't that much into teddybears. So we added a little zebra instead.

Meine beste Kindergarten-Freundin bekommt bald ihr erstes Baby, also hab ich heute ganz viele Baby-Illustrationen gemacht, denn sie bat mich die Baby-Karte zu designen... Jetzt brauchen wir nur noch das Baby, damit ich die Karte auch fertig machen kann :-)

My best friend from kingarten is going to have her first baby soon and she asked me to design her baby-card. So I did a lot of baby stuff illustrations today... So now we just need the baby so that I can finish it :-)

Ich nehme die Rügen bezüglich der mangelnden Pflege meine Blogs zur Kenntnis und zeige mal wieder ein paar Zeichnungen für das Kinderbuch-Projekt. Diesmal geht es um das Thema "Opposites". Irgendwie hab ich's gerade mit Elefanten und er passt doch so gut zu "Stark und Schwach".
Busy days... here are again some new drawings for the children's book project I'm working on. It's about "Opposites" this time. The elephant is part of "Strong and weak".

Clothes Illustrations

Es scheint ewig her, dass ich mich hier zu Wort gemeldet habe. Ich war allerdings zwischen den Jahren auch recht... sagen wir es ruhig: faul, was sich schlagartig mit Beginn 2009 geändert hat. Anbei etwas nicht ganz so spannendes, das ich gerade mache. Für die Kinder-Englischschule werden zusätzlich zu den illustrierten Themen auch sogenannte Flash-Cards benötigt auf denen die jeweiligen Begriffe nochmal aufgezeigt werden. Das hier sind die für "Clothes".

Seems like years that I've posted something here. The reason is, I was incredibly lazy over christmas but that changed with the beginning of 2009. So here is something I do right now, not that exciting but anyway. For the cildren's English-school we also need some Flash-Cards, that show all the subjects. And these are the ones for clothes.

Hohoho, Weihnachten kommt ja immer so plötzlich und alle wollen beschenkt werden. Ich hätte dieses Jahr ein paar Vorschläge, denn seit kurzem bin ich Inhaber eine eigenen Spreadshops, bitte schauen Sie hier. Jede Menge Kleidungsstücke für die mode-bewusste Frau/Freundin/Tochter/Schwester.

Illustratoren Organisation

Seit kurzem bin ich Mitgleid in der Illustratoren Organisation. Dort erhält man sehr umfangreiche Informationen was man beachten sollte, wenn man mit Illustration Geld verdienen will und man kann sich mit einem Portfolio präsentieren. Für die eifrigen Blogleser unter euch wird dort allerdings nicht viel neues zu finden sein. Ein Blick lohnt sich trotzdem.

I'm now a member of the Illustratoren Organisation. There you'll find lots of information about how to work as an illustrator. And you can present yourself with a portfolio. If you're reading my blog constantly it won't be that new for you. Worth a look anyway.

Red Shoes

Die Illustration hatte ich beinahe vergessen. Sie ist im Rahmen des Illustrationskurses an der EVTEK in Helsinki letzten Winter entstanden. Ich mags immer noch sehr gern.

I totally forgot about this one. I made it last year for an illustration class at EVTEK in Helsinki and it was a christmas present for all of my friends. I still like it a lot.

Ich habe mal wieder an einem kleinen Wettbewerb teilgenommen und leider nicht gewonnen, aber da ich die Plakate trotzdem mag, poste ich sie hier. Gesucht wurde ein Plakat für das Kindermedienfestival. Gewonnen hat übrigens das.

Heute mal: ein Teddybär - Today: Teddy bear

Hier sind wieder ein paar Illustrationen für das Kinderbuch-Projekt an dem ich arbeite, diesmal ein Teddy in verschiedenen Positionen. Und weil der Kleine so aktiv ist, gibt's diesmal einen Bastel-Hampelmann-Teddy dazu. Das hört sich einfacher an als es ist, denn ich musste tief in die Hampelmann-Bastel-Technik eintauchen und auch erst der dritte Versuch hat geklappt (Kinderkanal sei dank).

Here are some more illustrations for the children's book project I'm working on - a teddy doing a bunch different things. He's a very active guy, that's why I decided to add a handicraft version of the teddy. That was much more difficult than I thought, I had to start over two times. But finally it worked (thanks to Kinderkanal = Children's channel)

Ist denn schon wieder Ostern? Für mich gerade schon. Hier ist ein neues Thema für das Kinderbuch.

Birthday Boy 2

Hier ein paar neue Einblicke in meine Arbeitswelt. Das "Happy Birthday" Bild ist jetzt fertig, wobei colorieren bei den Temperaturen (seit Wochen kein Tropfen Regen in Berlin) weniger Spaß macht. Zum Glück bin ich mal auf Anja Riegers Blog gestoßen und habe diesen Trick entdeckt: bei schwitzigen Händen einfach Billig-Handschuhe aus dem Drogeriemarkt kaufen, Finger abschneiden und los zeichnen. Klappt ganz gut.

Some more insights into my working world. The "Happy Birthday" illustration is done, but coloring is no fun at all in summer (no rain in Berlin for weeks!). Luckily I found Anja Riegers blog and her little trick: just get some cheap handgloves, cut off the fingers and you don't need to care about sweating hands. Works quite good.

Ist ein Weilchen her, dass ich etwas gepostet habe, der Grund ist der übliche: zu viel Arbeit an allen Ecken. Und dann peile ich ja auch noch das Diplom an... Hier ist eine Skizze für das Kinderbuch Projekt an dem ich (unter anderem) arbeite: das Thema ist Kindergeburtstag wie man sieht. Bald wird's bunt, dann gibts mehr.

Piggy the Brave auf der Leipziger Buchmesse - Piggy the Brave at the Leipziger Bookfair

Wie jedes Jahr war unser Studiengang auch dieses Jahr wieder auf der Buchmesse vertreten und dieses Jahr hatte ich auch endlich mal ein Buch beizutragen. Das fand offenbar so viel Gefallen, dass es am Samstag geklaut wurde :-( Darüber war ich echt sauer, denn die Bücher der Hochschulen dort sind oft Unikate und sehr aufwendig und teuer her gestellt. Dass das gemeine Messe-Publikum mit dem "Was kann ich hier umsonst mitnehmen"-Blick das nicht versteht ist schlimm genug, aber man klaut einfach nicht und schon gar keine Bücher. Nun ja, ein kleiner Trost kam vom Nachbarstand, der sagte: "Bücher, die nicht geklaut werden taugen nichts", trotzdem ärgerlich. Hier ein paar Bilder von der Messe.

As every year, my university was an exhibitor at the Leipziger bookfair and this time I also showed a book. It seemed like people liked it a lot because it was stolen on Saturday :-( I was really pissed off because the books we showed were all handmade and usually unique prints. Well... there were words of comfort from the exhibitor next to us, he said: "books that are never stolen, are no good". Anyway, annoying. Here are some pictures.

Piggy the Brave

Während meines Auslandssemesters in Helsinki/Finnland ist dieses Kinderbuch entstanden. Es ist eine finnische Kindergeschichte aus den Fünfzigern, die neu und zeitgemäß illustriert werden sollte. Folgend ein paar Skizzen, die den Entstehungsprozess etwas illustrieren.

During my exchange semester in Helsinki/Finland last year I illustrated this cildren's book called Piggy the Brave. It's a story from the 1950s which should get a more modern look. Here are some sketches to show the process.

Mein Beitrag für Minisprech - my work for "Minisprech"

Das ist mein Beitrag für das ziemlich coole Projekt "Minisprech", dass von Sabrina Tibourtine ins Leben gerufen wurde. Jeder (Illustrator) kann mitmachen. Man sucht sich eine tages-aktuelle Nachricht aus den Medien und illustriert diese. Dann wird die Postkarte an Sabrina geschickt, die diese dann auf ihrem Blog veröffentlicht. Nächstes Jahr gibts dann eine Ausstellung, auf der die Werke verkauft werden und der Erlös geht an Unicef. Super Idee!

This is my work for the very nice project "Minisprech" (which means something like "little speak"), that was created by Sabrina Tibourtine. Every illustrator can participate, you just choose a headline from your daily newspaper and illustrate it. Then you send the letter or postcard to Sabrina and she posts it on her blog. Next year there will an exhibition with all the works and the they will be sold and the money goes to Unicef. I love this project!
